Department of Economics

B. Sc Economics programme was established during the 2002/2003 academic session as a unit in the Department of Business Studies. The unit started with less than 40 students and two tenure lecturers and some visiting lecturers. The then Department of Business Studies was splitted into three Departments: Accountancy Department, Business Administration and Economics Departments.

From less than 40 students in 2002/2003 session, currently the Department has a total of almost 800 students in 2009/2010 session for all the four levels. It has graduated four sets of B. Sc Economics over the past 4 session. Department of Economics has started Postgraduate programme (M. Sc Economics) in 2009/2010 session with 15 student to specialize in various field of economics.

In addition to the capable and renown lecturers, Department of Economics has among others well-equipped Econometrics Laboratory with the latest econometrics soft wares.
In 2007 and 2008, Department of Economics won the Vice-Chancellor’s cup and came second in 2009.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  1.  All candidates applying for the Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics must have five credits in GCE/SSCE or its equivalent at not more than two sitting.  The five credits must include in Mathematics, English Language, Economics and any other two relevant subjects.
  2. Candidates for admission must write and pass the Post University Matriculation Examination (U.M.E) whenever the University conducts such an examination.
  3. The Department admits Direct Entry Candidates with recognized Diplomas, HND and NCE with relevant qualification.
